Find a SQL Server database when installing PeoplePassword

The installers for PeoplePassword and PeopleEnroll ask for a database when installing the solutions. Sometimes the list of servers is empty, though, when you browse for a database. This is typically caused because the SQL Server hosts in your environment do not have the SQL Server Browser service running. You have two options to work around this solution. It’s important to make sure the PeoplePassword web server can communicate with the SQL Server since the installer runs the scripts to create and populate the initial PeoplePassword database.

  1. Turn on the SQL Server Browser service on the database server that will host the PeoplePassword database. You can turn this service off again once the installer finishes. The References section includes links to more information about the service.
  2. If you know the database and catalog name, you can manually type in the SQL Server host name and catalog name instead of browsing. You can use (local) for a local SQL Server installation and include the parentheses in the name.
